Bank Holiday Discounts

Ladies with Bank Holiday coming up and pay day arriving early I suggest you follow this link to ASOS. There is an offer of free delivery for all ASOS shoes bought this weekend!!!
I absolutely love ASOS shoes. They are always right on trend, but these shoes are not for the faint hearted! Some can be quite pricey. This seasons top pick seems to be shoe boots again – but this year open toed ones.
My next tip is to head to Dorothy Perkins (follow this link) again they have a Bank Holiday offer. I have been liking Dorothy Perkins recently. It seems to have shed it’s slightly frumpy stereotype and is coming up the ranks as a popular high street store – DPs follow the trends much closer now and seem have hit a good middle ground between fashion and price tag!So treat yourself this weekend, and with discounts like these why not!!!

Kate Moss’ New Topshop Collection

Kate Moss’ new collection for Topshop is unveiled tomorrow. It is entirely grunge in origins and is Über-cool. If you’re not into ripped, sequinned or studded then I’m afraid you’re all out of luck. However there are some really cool dresses in the collection too, most pieces can be dressed up and down and if you’re looking for a hint of grunge to add to your skinny jeans and Converse trainers this collection is for you.

I think my favourite piece is a stripped, ‘open weave’ jumper. This would look great with a pair of grey jeans and either flat biker boots or some high heels.
There is also a lovely woollen jumper/dress – great for Christmas time when you retrieve the Ugg boots out of the cupboard.

New Fashion Faces

The new face of beauty has arrived and the future is Asian.
Eastern European girls who have flooded the market may have their dominance taken away from them. The launch of GQ China and the increase in printing of Vogue India have spurred the market to start scouting for more Asian models.
The London Fashion Week next month is bound to show this tread (we saw a sneaky peek in February’s Fashion week when there was an Asian model in majority of shows) with the likes of models such as Tao Okamoto

Tao Okamoto

and Liu Wen

becoming very popular with designers like Chanel, Moschino and D&G.
The next model clearly destined for model stardom is Lakshmi Menon.

Lakshmi Menon.

She has recently featured on the cover of V Magazine, has just done her first US Vogue, is currently doing a campaign for Gap and appeared in a Riccardo Tisci show exclusively.
It may take some time for the fashion world to change but surely some new faces and looks on the scene would be quite interesting – beats looking at the same old thing all the time!

Banksy vs Bristol Museum

bristol_banksy

This weekend is the last weekend if you want to catch the Banksy exhibition at the Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery. It runs until August 31st and is open 10am-5pm daily and admission is free.
The secretive artist (rumoured to be Bristol born) has transformed the Gallery and some of its art work into thought provoking, sometimes very typical Banksy, artwork. There are also original pieces that have never been seen before – totalling over 100 works it is Banksy’s biggest British exhibition.
The exhibition called Banksy versus Bristol Museum the gallery has been completely taken over by the artist but often in a very subtle ways. In some parts of the gallery he has blended his artwork into the classical works so it almost becomes a game, who can spot a Banksy first?
For example the Banksy version of the Madonna and Child seems to have not been touched until you notice that the Holy Mother is listening to her iPod! There are other art works that he has cleverly inverted to give a completely new meaning to the artwork.
Let me know if you caught the exhibition and your thoughts on it and other Banksy artworks.

Hair Trends for Autumn 2009

The bob is ruling the styling pages of magazines this autumn. All the celebs seem to have chopped it all off and this seems to be setting a trend.

cropped-bob-katie-holmes

Celebrities like Katie Holmes are opting for the very sleek Cropped Bob.  This is a confident hair cut for a confident lady.

Agnes Deane (and I guess Victoria Beckham – but I hate saying she is a trend setter) have set a precedent for the Pixie Crop. This is slightly more exciting than your average bob and a step up from a Cropped Bob. It is very easy to manage but has to be styled otherwise it’ll end up looking flat and unloved and a bit pants really!
Word of warning though ladies!: Make sure you are sure you want to chop off all your hair, make sure your face can carry off such a dramatic look and remember – hair can take quite a while to grow back if you don’t like it!
Still well on trend for 2009 though is long hair – it seems to one extreme or the other! Long hair can suit majority of face shapes and you have lots of options – go sleek, go big (voluminous) or go wavy.

hilary-duff-mermaid-style

Celebs like Hilary Duff have been rocking long wavy hair for ages (she must use my motto of ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’!)
I used to chop my hair off and grow it back all the time and often got very frustrated about it not being right and then not growing back quick enough, but I have had long hair for quite a few years now. It sounds boring to stick to a hair do that suits you but if like me your hair is your confidence then why change!

America’s Next Top Model – Cycle 12

americas-next-top-model-cycle-12

With Cycle 13 of America’s Next Top Model having just been filmed I cannot for the life of me find an accurate date of when Cycle 12 is going to be shown in the UK.
I absolutely love this show and although Tyra Banks is getting weirder by the series (but still not a scratch on how weird the female presenter of ‘Make Me a Supermodel’) I am hooked every season.
Last year I thought I had the winner all picked out from the start but when she got booted out in the penultimate show I didn’t have a clue who was going to win, but I was glad when McKey won in the end.
This year looks like it is set to be just as good as last year. However I don’t want to go on any of the American websites about it as they already know who won Cycle 12 as it was aired over there in March and are gearing up for Cycle 13, so you will find pics of the winner of Cycle 12 if you Google ANTM.
I wonder how big Tyra’s hair will get this season and how many times they will say ‘fierce’ in this seasons episodes!! (I think Cycle 10 was the worst for ‘fierceness’!!!)
Plus did anyone notice that Jay’s hair was incredibly blonde in the last year’s episodes?? I hope this year we don’t get some many divas and I’m really looking forward to seeing what scenarios they come up with this year for the photo shoots – unfortunately I already know where they go abroad after looking for info about the new Cycle.
So if you do know when it starts on Living please please please let me know.
Thanks

Emma Watson

emma watson

At just 19 years old Emma Watson (most famously known as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films) she is seriously becoming a big fashionista. She has serious poise and grace for a teenager and also put a great outfit together. Apparently she will often put her own outfits together using a mixture of high street and vintage and is rarely styled, but she has been seen in a one off designer dress occasionally on the red carpet. Designers are flocking to have her be seen in one of their frocks at a premier (or in fact any event – as Emma is rarely out of the lime light now adays!). She is always spotted at fashion shows (even having front row seats at London fashion week) and seems to really love fashion and has her own unique style. And I give her kudos for remaining natural. There is nothing fake tanned or cosmetically enhanced about her. She has come a long way from the bushy hair of 11 year old Hermione.

I think we will be seeing a lot more of Emma on the red carpet, no doubt dressed to impress.

We Will Frock You

swapping clothes

Fancy a brand new outfit, for no other price than a couple of items from your own wardrobe? Well the ‘We will Frock You’ event in Manchester will be just your thing.
It is a fashion Swop Shop, held on Sunday 16th August @ Walrus Canteen and Lounge bar in the Northern Quarter starting at 3pm.
The rules are you swop your unwanted clothes for tokens and with those tokens you can purchase a whole new outfit (depending on how many tokens you receive!). The only other rule is that you have to take along clothes that are either high street or designer, no rubbish and obviously nothing that’s dirty or ruined (e.g. stained or with holes in). The event organisers advise

The better clothes you bring then better clothes you will walk away with!

There is also food and entertainment provided by the venue in the form of acoustic music.
Check out the website, seems like a pretty great Sunday afternoon if you ask me!

Make Me a Super Model

Has anyone seen the new series on Living called Make Me a Super Model god I’m hooked. Every Monday a 9pm on Living

I do feel a like bit of a traitor though as I am the number one fan of Americans Next Top Model. However I have started to lose interest with it as the focus is very much on how much bitching they can fit into the program and what Tyra Banks seem to be wearing every week. Although I do still love it, it does seem to be moving away from actually finding talented models.

So I just love love love MMSM. Rather than finding potentials just pretty girls, giving

them make over and hoping for the best, this show takes a mixture of boys and girls, already with experience but who need the extra help and experience from the professionals. Its take American next top model to the next level.

Any way as touched upon the show focus on 7 boys and 7 girls, puts them through their paces, only to have one booted off at the end of each episode.

The challenges are more realistic and with the models working together as though on a real shoot. Although they are all gorgeous there are some few obviously standouts. For the boys Jonathan with his Greek / Roman profile or Sandhurst for his amazing body. For the Girls Kerryn for timeless Angelina-Joie natural beauty or Jordon with killer cheek bones.

What do you think? If you’ve missed it don’t stress its only just started. Give it two week all the episodes shown so far will be repeated on Sunday on Living

Oh I forgot to add Tyson how host the show…… say no more you’ll be hooked!
