Newcomer Mia Wasikowska named highest grossing actress of 2010

The Australian-born actress and relative newcomer Mia Wasikowska has been named the top grossing female actress of 2010, according to a recent list compiled by Forbes magazine.

Wasikowska topped the list as she was lucky enough to be cast as Alice in Tim Burton’s massive hit Alice in Wonderland, which raked in a total of $1.03 billion at the global box office. The fresh-faced 21-year-old also appeared in “The Kids Are All Right” alongside Julianne Moore and Annette Benning this year, which took a respectable $29 million at the box office considering the film’s meagre $4 million budget.

Topping the list of highest grossing male actors was Leonardo DiCaprio, after his starring role in Inception.

Pete Doherty gets acting debut in Alfred de Musset biopic

Although the former Libertines frontman Pete Doherty is better known these days for his documented problems with illegal substances than his music, he is not usually associated with the world of film.

All this is set to change with the making of a new biopic of 19th century French poet Alfred de Musset, in which Doherty makes his acting debut. The 31-year-old is set to star opposite Anglo-French actress Charlotte Gainsbourg in the movie, which is a film adaptation of the celebrated literary figure/notorious dandy’s autobiographical novel La Confession d’un Enfant du Siècle.

Speaking of his new role, Docherty said:

“The story is a love triangle, so it’s pretty intense and romantic,”

“I don’t know if I’m a good actor, but they say I am.”

Willow Smith tears up the charts with ‘Whip My Hair’

Rising star Willow Smith, the daughter of Hollywood couple Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith, has shot up the charts with her debut single, the incredibly catchy Whip My Hair.

The fashionable youngster, who is just ten years old, achieved the number two spot with her single in the charts recently.

Smith was robbed of the number one position by (what some people consider to be the massively overrated) Black-Eyed Peas with The Time (Dirty Bit), their monstrous rip-off/sickeningly messed-up mash-up of the Dirty Dancing theme tune.

Many believe the BEP achieved the number one spot due to their involvement in the X Factor live shows, in which they ‘performed’ their dreadful single.

Matt Cardle wins the X Factor 2010

In a somewhat predictable result – considering that he topped the vote for several consecutive weeks – Matt Cardle has been announced as the winner of X Factor 2010.

In what was an unusually anti-climactic final, possibly due to all the ‘fix’ rumours surrounding the ITV show, Cardle was crowned the winner ahead of the supremely talented Liverpool lass Rebecca Ferguson and cocky pipsqueaks One Direction.

Matt Cardle, who was in Dannii Minogue’s category, will release a cover of Biffy Clyro’s Many of Horror as his first single. The original version of this song was only released by the band in January 2010.
