The nominations for the Mercury Music Awards have been released this week, and with such a verity it is set to me the closest contended ever with a heavy female influence and many new acts, you would find it difficult to place a bet on who the winner will be. With the success of their album “Lungs” and the popularity of the band at this year’s festivals, Florence and the Machine is definitely a serious contender. As for La Roux, they have done what Florence and the Machine have achieved and freshened up the British music industry and added an 80’s pop feel into the mix, which has been appreciated by music lovers and producers, giving the Skream re-mix of “In for the Kill” a prime example. But my preference would have to be the second album “Two Suns” from Bat for Lashes. The mixture of hunting melodies, powerful vocals from Natasha Khan and electronic synths which sound fresh out of the Bristol 90’s era seems to be writing a new type of genre in the list of successful British music types. Two thumbs up for “Two Suns”.
